Heber McLaughlin of Lonoke County, was with the first United States troops to be engaged in combat as a unit with German forces in 1917. He was the first Arkansas officer to be wounded. He was wounded in the head. He later returned to Arkansas and served in the General Assembly. He died in 1931 and is buried in Mount Holly Cemetery in Little Rock.
